The artist, Frederic Remington (1861-1909), was born on October 1, 1861, in Canton, New York. Remington was first considered as a painter, but later in his life his bronze sculptures were so extremely well done that he is today known for his sculptures more than his paintings. Remington attended the Yale Art School, lifesize bronze statue and after his father's death in 1880, traveled west with what little money he had. During his travels, he worked as a sheep rancher lifesize bronze statue and sketched everything around him, recording everything on paper with his artistic abilities. When he returned to New York he had only a few dollars remaining, but he had with him a large collection of drawings from his years of travel.
